‘Game of Thrones’ season 4: Kit Harrington ‘slams’ … ‘Downton Abbey’?

Jon Snow -There are many things that we could understand Kit Harrington having some very strong opinions about, whether it be war, politics, social issues, or things of the like. But who knew that he would be so willing to tear into “Downton Abbey” of all things?

The comments that the “Game of Thrones” star made came courtesy of an interview with Rolling Stone, where he made it clear that one of his biggest issues with the series was strictly its depiction of major historical events:

“I really disagree with Downton Abbey on lots of f*****g levels … It celebrates the class system, and its kind of overall message seems to be, ‘Wasn’t it good when everybody knew their place within society?’

“Why should we hark back to those times? It was bulls**t. We got out of that, and thank the f**k we did.”

The comment probably comes across as a little harsher than he may have meant it thanks to all of the obscenities that are in it, and given the nature of Rolling Stone chats, was probably also done in a more humorous context that it is being taken in many interviews now.

The one thing that we find interesting about this is that Kit’s onscreen love interest for “Game of Thrones” the past few years has been Rose Leslie, who was a significant part of “Downton Abbey’s” very first season. She was asked following (spoiler alert!) the death of Ygritte if she would consider returning to the show in the future, but said instead that she is a little more focused on moving on to other things.

What do you think about Kit’s comments: Are they funny to you, serious, or blown extremely out of proportion? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and head over here to get some more news and updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
