‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 10 (finale) spoilers: Season 5 and beyond
Speaking on this subject in an interview on Bloomberg TV, the director of “The Children” (not to mention many other recent episodes this season) Alex Graves did his best to describe the scale without giving anything too major away:
“The finale of season 4 is unlike anything that’s ever been mounted on the show. It’s a turning point in the books, and it’s turning point on the show … I’m very proud of it.”
Graves was ambiguous on the future of the show from season 5 onward, which is probably the best course of action to take at the moment. With the news out there that George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series could potentially stretch out to eight books, that could make the show run longer than it was originally planned.
Clearly, there is no reason to worry about season 5 marking the end of the road. The show already has two more seasons coming up officially, and a season 7 feels assured given that is the bare minimum of the books that Martin will write. Things could get tricky in the event that the show catches up to the books, though, or if you start to get to the point where you need to negotiate new deals with a cast of this many people.
