‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 5 spoilers: Ashley Benson’s Hanna and identity questions

Who is Hanna Marin now that Ali is back? This is a question that will surface on “Pretty Little Liars” sooner rather than later. Realistically, though, this is a question that the majority of the characters will be forced to ask in some shape or form. All of them was a certain way when they were under the thumb of Rosewood’s former Queen Bee, and they have since had an opportunity to move on. Will Ali’s return cause them to drift back into their old ways, or to reassert their power now as a free-thinking, independent person?

This is something that Hanna (Ashley Benson) is going to struggle through on the upcoming third episode of the season, which carries with it the title of “Surfing the Aftershocks.”

“Now being forced to live through Ali’s latest lie, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to cover their tracks, while simultaneously trying to piece together what happened in New York. Hanna and Aria have to close loose ends with the two people who know the truth about Ali’s story – Mona and Ezra. Spencer and Emily try to find out the truth about Jason and his whereabouts the night they were in New York. Meanwhile, Hanna starts to examine who she really is – Hefty Hanna or Queen Bee Hanna – now that Ali is back.”

The exciting thing about this story is that it at least forces Hanna to deal with her past, and that is a good thing given how much time she has spent looking forward. With that being said, we really don’t feel like spending a whole lot of time with her in season 1 or 2 form would be that wonderful.
