‘I Wanna Marry ‘Harry’,’ ‘Riot’ effectively canceled early by Fox

Fox -Fox has made it very clear that they no longer have an interest in shows that are rated so low that The CW could beat them. Today, the network decided to pull both their dating show “I Wanna Marry ‘Harry'” and also the sketch show “Riot” from the schedule. They will be replaced with repeats of such shows as “Family Guy,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and “New Girl.”

These two shows have been recently averaging a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is so terrible that it is less than half of what some of The CW’s better shows receive. Even “So You Think You Can Dance,” despite its own ratings troubles at times, drew three times this number Wednesday night.

So why in the world did Fox decide to even pick up these two disaster areas in the first place? We could see this question being asked, and the simple answer to that is that they obviously felt like the big names on board the two shows would help them out. Ironically, “I Wanna Marry ‘Harry'” was produced by a guy in Ryan Seacrest who prefers to keep his own relationships private, while “Riot” had Steve Carell on board. Neither show was promoted particularly well, but we’d also argue that the royal one was just “Undercover Princes” meets “Joe Millionaire” and was completely stupid in the first place.

Overall, this is still turning out to be a good summer when it comes to programming. You have the return of “Suits” and “Graceland,” “Game of Thrones” coming to a close, and the premieres of “Under the Dome” and “The Leftovers” coming on the air near the end of the month.
