‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Could Joanne Froggatt go from Anna Bates to Bond Girl?
If there is a show to use as a platform seemingly these days, it is “Downton Abbey.” Dan Stevens has landed a variety of indie roles since leaving the show, and the departing Lily James is set to be the title character in the upcoming feature film version of “Cinderella.”
So who is next to potentially take their talents to the big screen? It could very well be Joanne Froggatt, based at least on some reports that are out there. According to MI6, Froggatt is atop a short list of people to play the female lead in an upcoming James Bond movie. While the term “Bond girl” is commonly used for actresses in this position, this does not necessarily mean that Froggatt will be given the Christmas Jones treatment here by any means. This character is supposedly “gritty,” and will be a challenge to Bond. Ever since Daniel Craig took over the role, there is little question to us that these parts have become increasingly complex.
As for what this would mean for Froggatt’s future on the show, let’s not go completely insane with that just yet given that we are obviously still in the very early stages of all this, and these are only rumors with a source attached for now. It is also feasible that she could do both parts, just with a schedule that is assembled perfectly. Remember here that James is not leaving the series to film “Cinderella”; instead, this seems to be more based on future projects and also the promotional tour for the film happening at the same time as production on the show. (Random thought: Is the big Cinderella reveal in this movie going to be ruined thanks to her getting to wear so many fancy gowns on this show?)
