‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 10 (finale) spoilers: Bosses set the bar high
While “Game of Thrones” has been a pretty darn remarkable series over its past four years on the air, there is one thing that has remained pretty true about the majority of their finales: They have been a little soft, and at times even forgettable. They are typically used more as stepping stones, and we cannot really say that any of them has had a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. Even Dany’s dragons hatching at the end of season 1 was something that we felt to be inevitable.
Will the end of season 4 change that? It certainly seems possible, given the way that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are hyping this up. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the two had the following to say:
“It’s the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none … The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new [music] cues from Ramin Djawadi—all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced. We’re immensely proud of ‘The Children.’ And a little intimidated by the episode, because now we have to get back to the business of season five and figure out a way to top it.”
We’re going to take their word for it, mostly because we would not consider either one of these people to be desperate hype monsters by any means. They typically allow the show to speak for itself, and do not often need to do anything to get us excited.
We can at least say that there are plenty of interesting stories that the show is going to address in the finale, in between Tyrion’s trial, Margaery and Tommen, where Bran Stark is right now, and whether or not Jon Snow is going to get anything accomplished with Mance Rayder.
