‘Saturday Night Live’: Is Nasim Pedrad ready to leave?

SNL -In today’s edition of “predictable TV news,” it looks as though Nasim Pedrad may be saying goodbye to “Saturday Night Live” after many years with the program.

Per Entertainment Weekly, the actress suggested at the ATX Television Festival this weekend that she may be departing the sketch show, given that she has a new job on the Fox sitcom “Mulaney” that will take up more of her time. It would not be a particularly bitter departure, given that this show stars famed “SNL” writer John Mulaney and also is executive produced by Lorne Michaels.

However, the reason that we’re not surprised if she does leave is because it feels like she has had a foot out the door with this show for quite a long time now. There were many weeks this season where Pedrad was basically absent, and then she had some other characters when she was around that were simply annoying. (Take, for example, that overly-rebellious kid Shallon who we feel to be the regurgitated ghost of the equally-awful Kristen Wiig character Gilly.)

One of the biggest things that “SNL” will be out if Pedrad does leave is someone who is gifted with impressions, and is unafraid to tackle physical comedy at any turn. They will also have to find a new person to do Kim Kardashian; we’ve never felt like her impersonation was really that good, but her energy with it is always outstanding and “Waking Up with Kimye” was one of the better recurring talk-show sketches of the past year.

“SNL” has yet to make a decision on many of its featured players, and there are also questions regarding if some of the longer-tenured cast members are going to decide to walk away. We doubt it, given that there was no buzz about this at the start of the season.
