Comedy Central gives ‘The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail’ premiere date
We love comedy. We also Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani. Therefore, if this is some sort of transitive property of TV article-writing, we will of course love “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.” It’s the television version of the show that the two guys host regularly at Meltdown Comics, which features a variety of different comedians doing standup. In the end, all of it seems pretty self-explanatory. There aren’t enough great venues to watch pure standup on TV anymore save for talk shows and the occasional special, so we’re always game for something like this.
As for the premiere date, Comedy Central has announced it for Wednesday, July 23 at 12:30 a.m., and it will air on the night every week until ending in September.
So why so late? We can imagine the questions coming in now, but we feel like it totally makes sense for it to air following “@midnight,” given that both hosts have made multiple appearances on the show and it has proven to be a great draw with viewers in the 18-49 demographic. Also, Jonah is a regular part of Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist podcast, and Kumail co-hosts the Indoor Kids with Emily V. Gordon, who also in turn produces the show at Meltdown Comics. Hooray for synergy! Also, this all clearly shows that we have spent a good percentage of our life listening to a lot of podcasts on the Nerdist network.
The timing of this announcement also could not better, given that Kumail is coming off of the finale of “Silicon Valley” this past Sunday, and we’re glad that there is something more that we can laugh and talk about this summer.
While it’s too early to tell if this is a show we’ll cover every week, we’ll at the very least be a frequent viewer just like we are with “@midnight.”
