‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Joanne Froggatt on new Anna story

The latest -What is next for Anna on “Downton Abbey“? There are not too many opportunities right now to get further scoop on this season, mostly because of the fact that filming is still going on, and we are months away from the show returning to ITV.

Luckily, Joanne Froggatt is still willing to share at least a few details about what could be coming up ahead. Speaking in a new interview with GoldDerby, she did her part to share a little about where we are going to see the character pick up when the show returns, and also a little bit in regards to her relationship with Bates:

“We start season 5 with Anna Bates in a slightly more positive place. The season finale was a year on from the attack. Time has moved forward … but there is still this shadow hanging over them, so they still have more hurdles to cross, unfortunately.”

The rest of the interview is definitely worth watching / listening to, given how Joanne touches on the themes of season 4, the reaction to the controversial rape storyline, and also her theories about why this series has become a crazy success in America. We do want to see something that is at least a little happier for Anna this time around, largely because we have a hard time feeling like things could really get any worse for her than they did at times in this past go-around.

Of course, we are going to have some more news on this season as time passes, so be sure to stay tuned for that!
