Fall TV Preview: Will Kevin Williamson, Maggie Q land new hit in ‘Stalker’?

Stalker -Worlds colliding is clearly in some ways a theme of our latest edition of our Fall TV Preview series. Kevin Williamson and Maggie Q are two people who have very distinct audiences for very different things, with the former being the “Scream” franchise and early seasons of “The Vampire Diaries,” and the latter being more for her recent run on “Nikita.”

With “Stalker,” however, you have a show that seems almost perfectly in line with what you would think that a Williamson drama would look like if it were to air on CBS, whether you are talking about intensity, scary characters, or twists and turns. We’ll save whether or not this is a good a bad thing for the bottom of this article.

Logline – “Psychological thriller revolves around a pair of detectives who handle stalking incidents for the Threat Management Unit of the LAPD.”

Cast – Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q, Mariana Klaveno, Victor Rasuk

Producers – Kevin Williamson (writer / executive producer), Liz Friedlander (director)

Timeslot – Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. The team on this show has to feel pretty good about where it is on the schedule. “Chicago PD” is not an enormous hit, and “Nashville” draws smaller ratings. There is room to come in here and dominate with just over a 2.0 rating, and “Criminal Minds” is one of the better lead-ins that CBS has in that it is extremely consistent, and always has a ton of total viewers.

Our take – It feels very appropriate that this show and “Criminal Minds” are in a block, since they are basically the same exact show. They are a little hard to watch if you hate torture or intense violence, but good for armchair adrenaline junkies. This is not exactly our cup of tea, but we feel like this show is already an improvement on “The Following” in that Williamson has given himself an out in not relying on a single villain to sell the story. Now, we has some more options.
