‘Major Crimes’ season 3 spoilers: Could Kyra Sedgwick from ‘The Closer’ return?

Kyra Sedgwick has to feel in some ways like TNT royalty. “The Closer” is one of the network’s most-popular series ever, and without this show and its leading lady, you have to wonder whether or not the network would be in the position that they are now.

“The Closer” still lives on courtesy of its spin-off “Major Crimes,” and there is an opportunity coming up where, if he has his way, creator James Duff could have Brenda Johnson making one additional appearance. This is tied to the story of Phillip Stroh, who has still not had his actual trial taken place though there have been some preliminary things here and there.

Speaking to TVLine, Duff confirms that he wanted to get Billy Burke (who plays Stroh) back for a part in the show’s season 2 finale, but his shooting schedule at the time was packed due to “Revolution.” Obviously, though, there are some things that have changed now courtesy of that show getting canceled by NBC.

In the end, though, Duff is not going to be fully satisfied unless he can find a way to get both Sedgwick, and Burke back, saying that he would “like to have them both there” to continue the story. However, he added that in order to make it truly work, it would have to be a two-parter.

In the end, we have a hard time imagining why such a story wouldn’t happen. We would understand Sedgwick not wanting to embody a part that she played for many years for a long stretch of time, but it is just a two-episode gig that adds further closure (pun obviously intended) to her story.
