ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4 spoilers: Was losing Josh Bowman ever an option?
“Revenge” certainly has had its fair share of controversial moments in the past, but there were some that even played out behind the scenes.
Do you remember Josh Bowman suggesting that he may be interested in saying goodbye to the show? This came from an interview months ago, where he specifically said that the only way he could see Daniel Grayson around is if he ended up becoming one of the most awful people imaginable. Since that time things have obviously cooled off, given that he is still on the show and there hasn’t really been anything on the subject ever since.
Not only that, but the showrunner is saying that there were never even any serious discussions about whether or not the actor should leave the show. For more on that, just take a look at what Sunil Nayar commented with in an E! News piece:
“We never talked about it. I think when Josh was saying those things, it was in the middle of those episodes where he shot Emily and he didn’t really know which was his character was going to go, even though we talked about it.”
As for what we can expect to see from the Daniel Grayson character moving forward, Nayar was ultimately pretty candid:
“What we can expect for Daniel in season four? “I just think he’s so layered and interesting and certainly we want to keep making him a little bit on the evil side, but I think there’s a lot to be examined in Daniel’s journey … He’s going to lose a father, just like Emily did years ago, and that’s going to hit him in ways that will be surprising and unexpected. So we are never considered losing Josh and I am thrilled that he is staying on the show.”
Does this quote give away that Conrad Grayson is leaving the show? We don’t so much see it as that as we do Daniel believing that Conrad is dead. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
For now, we want to hear some of your own thoughts / theories on the future below, and head over here to get some oh-so-sweet TV updates now via our CarterMatt Newsletter.

“layered and interesting”: More like so whiny and spoiled, even Veruca from Willy Wonka would tell him to shut up.
“there’s a lot to be examined in Daniel’s journey”: Anakin in the Star Wars prequels had more to be examined than Daniel last season.
“He’s going to lose a father”: Guess that means Conrad is dead after all. Didn’t Daniel hate him a bit lately?
“that’s going to hit him in ways that will be surprising and unexpected”: What a twist. Is Nayar related to M. Night Shymalan, by any chance?
“So we never considered losing Josh”: Maybe he can become a writer for the show and kill off Daniel. That should work just fine.
“I am thrilled that he is staying on the show”: Maybe Nayar and Shymalan are distant cousins or something.
I enjoy Revenge, but Daniel has got to go.

If anyone’s confused what I meant about Conrad, Nayar was (and probably still is) considering having Conrad survive the stabbing.
