‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Gwendoline Christie’s summer is now VERY busy
There are many luxuries that come from being a part of “Game of Thrones,” whether you are talking about anything from the prestige of the show to the convention gigs or the opportunity to travel to unique parts of the world. Also, you get to walk the red carpet at many awards shows!
But one benefit that we did not mention above that is quite common is the ability for many actors to land other prestigious gigs as a result of being seen there. Emilia Clarke, for example, was able to cross over to Broadway. Meanwhile, Kit Harrington and Michelle Fairley have also landed some pretty impressive gigs away from the series.
So who is the newest person to join them? It is none other than Brienne of Tarth herself in Gwendoline Christie! Sources confirm that Christie has joined one of the most impressive projects of all in “Star Wars Episode VII,” though the role that she is playing for the time being is unclear. Her casting was announced alongside Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, who is coming off of her big win for “12 Years a Slave.” In a statement, Lucasfilm President Katheen Kennedy had the following to say about these two ladies joining the fold:
“I could not be more excited about Lupita andGwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII … It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
So what does this casting mean for Christie’s future on the show? Probably not much at all. “Game of Thrones” does not require a huge time commitment for any one actor thanks to its enormous cast, and Christie can probably make her schedule work. “Star Wars” is filming in London, and “Game of Thrones” primary films in nearby Northern Ireland.
What do you think about Christie getting this opportunity? Sound off in the comments, and head over here for a teaser of what lies ahead on the show. For some further TV updates, just sign up now for more via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
