‘Mad Men’ season 7: No spin-offs, sequels, or anything else for Matthew Weiner
So while we’re pretty sure that AMC would love a “Mad Men” spin-off given how much they are struggling to launch original series as of late, it’s not going to be happening. You may have heard this before, but time has not changed creator Matthew Weiner’s mind. He definitely said no to the idea in an interview with Deadline; as a matter of fact, it does not sound like he has any plans to dive into anything for a while after the series finale:
“In terms of what is my next project … I do not have my foot deep in anything else … For me, I need to take a break. That’s really what I’m planning to do … It’s scary because I’m stepping off a moving treadmill but I think it’s the best way to not just keep doing more of the same.”
We wonder if Weiner will someday do another series, but we would not be surprised if he stops given that he worked on two of the best in this show and “The Sopranos.” Plus, showrunning is exhausting business; if he was to ever come back, we feel like it would be something that allowed him to not have to do more than seven or eight episodes a season.
