‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: When are the writers back?
For some actors on “Arrow,” summer vacation will last for a little while longer. They can film other projects, attend conventions, or go off to their own little islands for a while on vacation. (Let’s just hope that these islands are a little more peaceful than the one that Oliver Queen was on.)
However, the vacation for the writing staff is just about over now. The team responsible for the magic behind the scenes are going to be back at work on Monday, and their first order of business will be cultivating what some of the general arcs are for the third season. They have to figure out what the major stories are going to be, and where they tentatively want Oliver Queen and company to end up by the time the season is over. After all, you need a plan for the future before you can even start to write out the present when it comes to TV writing. This is even more true when you have different writers working on different things, and you want to ensure everyone is on point.
Some of the general issues that we want to see resolved are Malcolm Merlyn’s status in Starling City, the future of the Oliver / Felicity relationship, and what the progression for Laurel Lance into the Black Canary is really going to be. There will also presumably be new villains entering the mix, and there are possibilities eventually for more spin-offs with “The Flash.” Stephen Amell is going to cameo in the pilot for the Grant Gustin show, but we otherwise hope that the writers take their time before bringing characters from separate shows together. Let them build some momentum on their own first.
