‘Glee’ season 6 spoilers: What departure of Fox boss means for show’s future
For most shows on Fox, the departure of network head Kevin Reilly at the end of June is more of an afterthought than something that is actively on their mind. Either they have already been scheduled for the fall, or they feel comfortable enough with their order that they don’t have too much to worry about when it comes to a new boss coming in and messing with things.
However, things are a little bit different when it comes to the future of “Glee.” This is a show that has a sixth season coming up, but one without a confirmed episode count (but it will probably be 13). It is also a show without a timeslot. Fox may choose to burn off the show on Saturdays, or use it to fill in for something else that is already on the schedule.
Ultimately, the departure of Reilly is not a good thing for those who wanted “Glee” to have at least some sort of honorable exit. He was one of the show’s biggest champions, and for a few years this was one of his biggest victories as network head following the show’s early success. (Him giving the show a two-season renewal after season 4, though, was one of his greatest mistakes.)
While we feel the odds of the show never airing again are about zero, this change could impact when and where you see the final “Glee” episodes. We will just have to wait and see what exactly shakes out there as we get closer to the airdate.
What do you think about “Glee’s” future now, or did you always assume that the show was going to end its run quietly no matter who was the boss at Fox? Share below, and head over here to get some further TV updates worth singing about via email.
