‘Community’ season 6 may still happen; Hulu, Sony TV in talks
Is the end officially here for “Community“? Not so fast, based on the new reports that are out there.
According to a report out there from Deadline, the canceled NBC series’ studio Sony TV is in discussions now with Hulu about keeping it alive for another season. There is reported interest on both sides, and many of the logistics are already in place when you think about it for a minute. “Community” has been an internet darling since inception, and Hulu already owns the digital streaming rights to the show. There is no reason why they would not push to bring it on the air for another go-around.
Granted, there are still some other issues that would need to be worked through before this deal is official, including how many episodes would be made, if the entire cast would return, and when it would premiere. We already know that when it comes to cast, it is unlikely that either John Oliver or Jonathan Banks would return for substantial arcs thanks to their other commitments. Meanwhile, Donald Glover remains a faint possibility unless he wants to just come back with a cameo at some point in the future.
We do want to see this happen very badly, especially with a movie coming afterwards so that the prophecy could be complete. Believe us when we say that there is no way that we want to see anything more than six seasons for the show. While we love it, genius is fleeting and the longer you air it, the longer you run the risk of having it be burnt out in the end.
So in the end, try to celebrate … but don’t start pop-popping open the bottles of champagne just yet.
