‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 8 preview: The Ellaria Sand mystery
Every season on “Game of Thrones,” you end up having around two or three characters who are introduced, but never have as large of a role as you would have assumed they would going into the proceedings.
This time around, Ellaria Sand is clearly one of these people. She is the lover of Prince Oberyn Martell, but so far has been relegated mostly to either “bed partner” or “silent partner” status. Maybe that will change during Sunday’s “The Mountain and the Viper,” which is the most important episode for the Oberyn character to date. The Red Viper has a chance to not only stand up for Tyrion Lannister as his champion, but also defeat the man otherwise known as The Mountain, who is largely responsible for doing a series of terrible things to those who he loved dearly.
The unfortunate thing for Oberyn is that there are only one of two ways that this is going to end for him: He either wins the trial by combat and still faces headhunters at every turn within King’s Landing, or he loses the duel and is killed by The Mountain. Either way, he is going to have a very difficult time surviving unless he finds a way to get back to Dorne in the near future. For Ellaria, she better just hope that she is along for the ride somewhere. The reason that this attached picture is valuable is mostly because she looks to be so concerned in it about something, whether it is the fate of her loved one or something else entirely.

Not sure where you got the inclination that if Oberyn won there would be head-hunters after him in Kings landing. He’s a prince of Dorne and its clear that as much as the Lannisters need the Martells to help them financially, they also need Dorne hense Tywin having Oberyn on the small council and as a judge at the trail. If he’s killed by headhunters then the lannisters would have another enemy coming for them and clearly Tywin is smarter than letting that happen when he’s worked so hard to get to this relative “peace” in the realm. If he loses he dies yes, but if he wins he kills the man who slaughtered his sister and her children, and also takes a jab at the lanisters who would love nothing but to get rid of Tyrion.
