‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers: Chris Harrison on Josh Murray – Andi Dorfman move
On Monday night’s “The Bachelorette” there were quite a few developments, from the first two one-on-one dates to also a drunken disaster. One thing that was probably overlooked, though, was how Josh Murray made a subtle move to win Andi Dorfman over by making it very clear that while she may have preconceived notions about who he is, there is something more there.
There is a certain part of this show that is actually strategy, and this is what Josh did very well in this conversation. Andi had already said in a confessional that this was the sort of guy she typically likes and was worried about him, and based on what Chris Harrison said to TV Guide after the episode, he could sense that:
“Josh … played it smart in calling himself out, saying, ‘I know I’m an athlete and that guy women would typically run from.’ He’s the good-looking athlete; every girl goes through that phase. When you’re ready to settle down, it’s a stereotype, but often times that’s not a good or lasting phase. He knows that and she really respected it. Now whether it’s true or not or just talk remains to be seen. But he could tell she was being hesitant.”
Granted, there is one part of Josh’s strategy that has come off poorly, and that is him being billed as a “former pro athlete” in his biography. Maybe this is ABC’s fault, but as we said in our podcast earlier in the day, it feels like this is something he is holding onto desperately as a status.
Harrison also teased to the website that there was going to be a moment or two in the episodes ahead that will feel like old “Bachelorette” standbys, including a possible “not there for the right reasons” moment that we’ve seen so many times before.
We’ll of course have some more “Bachelorette” coverage throughout the week, so be on the lookout for that. Also, you can sign up today to get further news via our official newsletter.
