‘The X Factor’ USA: See Alex & Sierra’s ‘Scarecrow’ lyric video now!
We’ve been teasing for a few days now that the arrival of Alex & Sierra’s lyric video for “Scarecrow” would be here shortly, and it’s now official: The video is online!
The story that the “X Factor” winners tell is a simple one about two people trying to overcome obstacles and be there for each other. The only real twist in here? That these two people are actually puppets. It’s a fun premise that is played out pretty well, especially since it utilized the Muppet tradition of putting these characters into the real world and acting like nothing at all is different.
This is the first time that many of us have also heard the actual song as a whole, and with the chorus and the jamming interlude, it brings to mind a little bit of Phillip Phillips, The Lumineers, and a little bit of the current genre pioneer Mumford & Sons. There could be a place for it on either the Hot AC or the Top 40 radio format, mostly because there’s not anything out there. While this folksy acoustic rock has been played more in recent years, there are few male / female duos in this genre right now that are not strictly collaborations.
We’ve heard a number of reactions to the video already, including some who claim that it was a questionable move to feature puppets rather than Alex & Sierra themselves. The response that we would have to that is that this is the lyric video and not the music video for one (they’ve already filmed that, as well), and that we actually like the move to go off the beaten path. Puppets are fun, trendy at the moment, and it gives the entire tale a homespun quality that you don’t often have in modern pop / rock music.
