‘America’s Got Talent’ premiere preview: Howard Stern, judges on new twist
Tomorrow night on NBC, you better get ready for a crazy night of performances, silly one-liners from judges, and hopefully talent. “America’s Got Talent” is back on the air!
Sometimes, it is difficult to get that attached to the show for the simple reason that production gets in the way. The pre-taped packages are extremely cheesy and cliche, there is rampant product-placement, and Nick Cannon needs to be given some sort of leeway after years about the show to actually try to do some improv. Often, he feels somewhat glued to the teleprompter.
The one thing that we are excited about for Howard Stern, Howie Mandel, and the rest of the gang is the opportunity to have the Golden Buzzer twist. This basically will work as follows: When one of them really wants to save an act and bring them to the live shows, all they have to do is push a special button. However, they can only do it once for the entire season. This twist was implemented on the British show this season, and we found it to be pretty exciting.
With that being said, this twist works so much better when judges use it for acts that are on the fringe. Giving someone a golden buzzer who is already a favorite is repetitive; that is why we are excited that Howie Mandel seems to be using his on an act that may not have otherwise had the votes needed to get to the next part of the competition. On the British show Ant & Dec also had an opportunity to press the golden buzzer for someone, but it is unclear if that opportunity will also be afforded to the judges.
