‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: Is Jessica Chastain really a possibility?
In today’s edition of “news we wish was true,” we have a story that related to Jessica Chastain that could have made many fans out there happy.
Last week, a rumor was started by Nerdist News that the star of “Zero Dark Thirty” was being considered for one of the lead roles in “True Detective” season 2, which would have been strong evidence that having a female lead for the new season was being strongly considered. We understand why Chastain would be in-demand, given that she is a critically-acclaimed performer who has done a variety of different things and also could boost her profile through this to a new audience. While this show may not be as commercial as “The Help,” there certainly could be some first-time viewers with it.
Unfortunately, Variety reports via Chastain at Cannes that she is not going to be taking the part. This does not necessarily render the original story false, given that there is a difference between HBO approaching her for a part and then her deciding whether or not she wants to do it. It still makes sense for her to be possibly approached, and if she was on a shortlist somewhere, maybe we can use this to wonder who some of the other possible actresses for a role could be if there is a major one for a woman.
So far, though, HBO has been very quiet regarding details for a new season. There is no word on when it would film or premiere, but we are getting so late in the year now that it is difficult to imagine it airing once again in January without a very quick production turnaround for the show.
