‘Sherlock’ season 4: Mark Gatiss says series plans still in motion, not for one-off
For those considering the idea seriously of “Sherlock” season 4 being a potential one-off special as actor Martin Freeman recently suggested, we now have some more comments from one of the creators that cast a very different tone on the show’s future … as a show.
Speaking at the recent BAFTA Film and Television Awards, Mark Gatiss explained that there wasn’t much thought being put into creating just one mini-movie that will function as a placeholder or a conclusion to the series; rather, he claimed (per Digital Spy) that there is still much effort being put into finding a way to make everything work in terms of scheduling for the actors alongside himself and Steven Moffat:
“Benedict and Martin’s schedules, Steven’s schedule, my schedule, everybody’s schedule – it’s like a jigsaw puzzle … But both [Martin and Benedict] are really very keen to carry on and as I say, we have made progress.”
Is this “progress” something to really look forward to? We’d take a few deep breaths beforehand, mostly because we have learned already now that it is far too easy to get excited about something and then disappointed later. We’ll start getting pumped when a fourth season is commissioned, and we know that there is some sort of firm date for filming set in stone. With every passing week, after all, the schedules for everyone for the immediate future start to fill up more and more. Everyone has busy careers, and there is therefore not much of a need to sit around and wait for this show.
