‘MasterChef’ season 5 preview: Get prepared for another culinary clash
Monday night may be Memorial Day, but it is starting to shape up to be a pretty big night of reality TV programming. You also have a new episode of “The Bachelorette” airing at its normal time on ABC, and you can now throw in there the latest season premiere of “MasterChef” for good measure.
So what makes this season so different from all the other ones that have come on Fox over the years? As of right now, the only answer that we can give you is “not much.” It feels roughly like the same exact show that you’ve witnessed time and time again. There are heated challenges, and also emotional stories of the contestants who strive to be the next big thing in food.
Has this show really created a culinary superstar? We wouldn’t say that, but we would argue that this is not the point of the show so much as to wake up the world and prove that there are plenty of people who can cook who are not necessarily in the profession. This is more of a way for some of these people to get their foot in the door, an prove that they are good enough to have their own restaurant or to at least get further education. At times its funny, and that along with the challenges do make up for the general monotony most of the time. Eventually, we do feel like the formula will get tired, but Fox has been smart enough to keep the show in the summer, and it is also far enough away from “MasterChef Junior” so that this show will also not hurt it in any capacity.
