‘Chicago PD’ finale review: Jin in trouble, Kim, Adam romance heats up
We haven’t made it any secret that we were a little hesitant on the idea of another cop show coming to TV (especially on NBC which is already stocked full of crime shows), but it was easy to fall in love with the cast of “Chicago PD” and we honestly can’t wait for it to come back.
We had a fairly short first season with only 15 episodes, but what we were given was more then enough to get us excited for what’s coming up next season. Time to dive into the season 1 finale and see if it met all of our expectations.
Erin is in trouble, like career ending trouble. Charlie is blackmailing her, saying that if she doesn’t help him get his “payday” then he’s going to tell everyone everything he knows about her. So what is he asking for? He wants blueprints to a building (a jewelry store) that only Erin can get him, and now that he’s armed with explosives things are looking bad.
Stillwell is continuing to put the pressure on Jin for information about Voight, threatening to have his father deported if he doesn’t come up with something soon, but when Voight sees them talking, Jin knows he has to come clean. The fall out is not pretty and Voight starts paying Stillwell what he wants. Jin tells his dad to get out of Chicago and later turns up dead. Did Stillwell, Voight, or someone else kill Jin?
This is a big day for Voight learning secrets. Not only has he found out about what Jin has been doing behind his back (and about Jin’s death), but Erin decides that she needs to tell Voight that Charlie is blackmailing her and her best friend Annie. After taking down Charlie at the jewelry store, he starts telling everyone that he has vital information on a murder. Even though it was Annie that pulled the trigger on that murder, Erin tells Charlie that she’s going to take the blame for it to keep Annie and her son together and Charlie decides instead to keep the information quiet and help her catch the big guy behind the jewelry heist.
After Kim was denied the opportunity to move upstairs, because of her romance with Adam, he feels terrible about the situation and goes to her house to apologize. Really he’s there because he misses her and they spend the night together. Guess no lessons learned for Kim.
Antonio is back at work, but his wife is really unhappy about it and begs him to give up the job and move away with her. He decides to go to work anyway, but is working behind a desk, unfortunately it’s not enough for his wife and she leaves him.
This was a pretty good finale for a first season as it wasn’t afraid to take chances (like killing off a main character) and leaving just enough dangling threads to keep us wanting more. Episode grade: B-
