‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Jodi Bird, Ed Drewett, SweetChix, and more shine
As we near the end of the “Britain’s Got Talent” audition rounds, there is always a question that we ask ourselves: Did they actually save any quality talent for this part of the competition? This is around the time when things typically start to quiet down a little, but tonight, we’re pleased to say there there was still some good stuff that made it through … including one possible winner of the whole thing.
We’ve grown a little tired of the rubbish, so we’re not going to focus on any of that. Rather, this is all about the good acts!
Ricky K – We do love it when the show brings out a surprising act that we haven’t seen before, and this description very much suits Ricky. He is a natural performer / comic who uses his whole body, and he is perhaps the best at performing without even saying a word.
La Voix and the London Gay Big Band – This was one of those acts that we’re pretty sure Simon Cowell would have hated, but he wasn’t there for it in and we proceeded instead to love it. We are mostly just thrilled that quality camp entertainment is not dead, and this is living proof of it.
Ed Drewett – We talked about Ed prior to the start of this show as a contender, and now that we have heard his full song “blink,” we actually feel like this guy is the real deal. How many times do you see a genuine candidate to win the show come up with something completely original? It’s not that often.
Kony Puppets – This was honestly rather silly, so is it wrong to say that we actually rather enjoyed it? The only thing that we will say is that we’ll push our own personal buzzer if they come back out with another Beyonce routine.
Emma – One of the better pole-dancers of the group, but we’re not going to even sit here and talk about her weight because every other website will probably do that.
SweetChix – We feel like this is one of those girl groups that would have made it to bootcamp on “The X Factor,” and then eliminated before the start of the live shows. They are a decent group, but without a lead singer they are only going to get so far.
Jodi Bird – This was a bizarre ending to the show, wasn’t it it? Simon Cowell must really hate “Glee,” or this is a great explanation as to why his musical “I Can’t Sing” closed so quickly. Jodi is a very good singer, and while we don’t see her on pop radio, this was a nice audition to be on stage at some point in the future.
