‘NCIS’ season 12 spoilers: What we know now (with Mark Harmon connections)
How in the world do you spoil a show that has not even be written yet? That is a difficult thing to answer, and you can better think of this “NCIS” article as more of a guideline of what we know for now.
The first thing is something that happens every season: The writing process. Scripts will start to be laid out in terms of story ideas not that long into the future, and the writers return many weeks before the cast does. Filming for most scripted shows tends to start in July, with the occasional one coming back in August due to either a late start time or a quick production schedule.
So what has been said about the new season already? These are all tentative, but they are things that could stick:
- Meeting Gibbs’ mystery ex – This is supposedly going to happen, and help to fill a void in the character’s personal life. For those wondering if Mark Harmon is going to get too bogged down with this show and executive producing the New Orleans spin-off, expect his role in the latter to be more advisory than as a day-to-day showrunner. Gary Glasberg and the newly-appointing Jeffrey Lieber will handle most of that.
- More character stories – With the backdoor pilot and Ziva’s exit and so many other big events this past season, expect to see things drift a little bit back into individual stories this time around. All the actors are seemingly locked in to return, and there is no milestone episode on the horizon.
- Bishop’s husband? – This is something that has long lingered as a possibility for this season, and we feel like it’s a necessity if you really want to flesh out this character better. More than anyone else, we feel like having this summer is going to help the development of Bishop more than any other character. The writers haven’t really had this opportunity yet with her.
We posted recently on Twitter that we are going to do something soon that is strictly responding to questions from readers on the show, and that is very much still going to happen. It’ll probably be at around the end of the month, since we are going to take a little bit of a breather following sweeps and the upfronts this week. (Don’t worry, there will still be articles being posted on CarterMatt in that time.)

And on this post we have a prime example of why most of the fandom has given up trying to talk sense with a small but vociferous minority, considering they’re trying to make the new series about Ziva again even though it’s been ten months since it was announced she was leaving.
Shame that so many of Cote’s so called fans are unwilling to actually respect her decision.
I’m looking forward to meeting Bishop, and to more character stories. Also should be interesting to see what they do with Gibbs’ mystery ex… I hope they’ll also do another Diane episode, I looooove the Diane/Fornell/Gibbs dynamic, it’s hilarious.
I’d love to see Allison Janney on the show somehow, she’s so good, and she and Mark had wonderful onscreen chemistry in The West Wing. I could imagine her in a recurring role as a high up in government or maybe the Navy, or possibly as the director or assistant director of another federal agency. I wouldn’t mind her as a romantic interest for Gibbs, but I’d prefer to see her in an ongoing role. I’m guessing she’s probably too tied up with Mom, but a girl can dream… Allison
Janney should be on ALL THE THINGS!

Cotes was on for 8 years and I think she wants to do other things and she is young and beautiful so I respect her decision.

Please let me know if Ziva returns so I can watch NCIS again until then I will be watching reruns. As for Bishop, make her an NSA whistle blower who needs asylum in another country.

So glad that TeamNCIS is all signed up and ready to entertain us for at least another 2 seasons – but Fall seems so far off now!! Gonna be rewatching “Ice Maiden” and “Meltdown”; Seasons 1, 2 , 11; and cherry picking from the 8 in between years. Got the discs lined up, 5 bottles of Jack and enough microwave popcorn to see me thru…….:-D :-D :-D :-D
Hope season 12 will finally see some of ‘The Wall’s’ longest residents in the flesh and in interrogation……. :-)

I just don’t understand why Bishop is still there.

The writers pretending Ziva’s absence, both physically and in conversation, is any way normal or would be readily accepted just because they choose to shove this odd duck, non fitting character down the viewers throats, is just as unreasonable as asking the same of a Gibbs absence. ” It is not normal”.

I’m not interested in yet another ex of Gibbs. I’m not interested in Bishop’s husband. If this is what is supposed to keep fans interested, as opposed to great storylines like we had when Ziva was on the show, I will not be watching next season.

I’m on record as not being fond of Bishop. I am not interested in learning more about her. This season has turned me off the character completely.
As far as more character stories, wow, I hope season 12 will not be a repeat of 11. It consisted of a parade of guest stars solving the crime of the week, with a lot of character focus. One of the major effects of Ziva’s departure is that there are no more thrilling story arcs. I’m amazed they rushed to replace the character but did nothing to introduce new arcs. There’s no big villain, no big questions, no tensions to resolve. Fans have literally nothing to do all summer but argue about Bishop.

Strangely enough, I know several people for whom season ten was the strongest in years. Not everyone feels the same way: wow, who’d’ve thunk, eh?
As for having nothing better to do all summer but argue about Bishop, good grief, I hope you didn’t mean that “literally” literally, because otherwise that’s just sad. Even if we are just talking NCIS, I have sooooo many NCIS fandom related things to do this summer, and very few of them involve arguing about Bishop or indeed whining about her, which is what so many people seem to spend all their free time doing.

Season 10 or Season 11, Sarah? I didn’t like season 10, but really enjoyed most of season 11.

Yes, season 11 I meant – can’t type ;)
Yes, I know a lot of people who felt season 10 was a bit meh and considered season 11 a return to form.

Personally what i really want to know is, what is Ziva doing, and why isn’t Tony in touch with her?

I would like them to talk about Ziva as well.
