ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: Boss on how long Nathan Fillion – Stana Katic series can last
You know already that “Castle” has been renewed for a seventh season, but you may not know the answer to another question right now: Just how long can the show really last?
It’s certainly an achievement that the series has made it this far on TV, especially since we have just spent this past (exhausting) week seeing announcement after announcement all about how various shows were canceled after a season. After season 7, though, is around when things start to get a little bit difficult. Cast members, whether you talk about Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, or anyone else, need contracts, and the same thing goes for everyone else in production. The longer the show goes on the air, the more expensive it becomes. Also, there are concerns about how much story there is to tell.
When it comes to show creator Andrew Marlowe, he does at least feel like there is still plenty of life left in the show. Just take a look at what he had to say to Entertainment Weekly:
“My head is in continuing the show as long as we feel good and great storytelling and we certainly know from other shows that once characters get married, it’s not the end of storytelling. There’s still complications that ensue and fun to be had as a couple and fun to be had solving cases. So I don’t really know. You look at Bones as the model and there’s a version where you go on to season 10, 11, 12. And we’ll see if our people have the appetite for that. We’ll see if our actors want to do that, and we’ll see if the viewers stand by us for that.”
We could still see there being a few seasons left, though we don’t know if we could see there being anything after season 10. We’d just give it a few more seasons to give you some great mysteries, since the last thing that you want to do is overstay your welcome.

Really hope that Castle lasts for a long time. 7 is definitely not enough. They have a great cast and many good stories. Thank goodness the cast doesn’t have anyone getting a big head, thinking they are better than this show and, apparently are appreciative of the fact they are on an excellent show and making good money. What more could any actor ask for ? Thinking of several other shows where someone left, never to be seen again…………NYPD Blues, Criminal Minds, NCIS, ER,etc. Thanks to the entire cast and crew for staying loyal to your fans.

Castle is to me more than a show. The time I see castle feels to me like when I could get to visit someone of my own after a week or so to catch up with whats happening. The castle show in itself with its presentation style, lightness, down to earth original personalities of the actors involved helps to have 43 minutes of family time either if I am watching it my family or the TV family which somehow feels is close to us.
So I don’t expect each time I see Castle there needs to be 24 style action thriller nor do I expect it to be a CSI type crime solution or be like the desperately trying not at all original cast of bones..or it need want it to be the criminal mind each time neither the Burnnotice style approach or dont have to be each episode to be like Home Improvement…
I just want it to be how it is in life where one day is disaster while another is godly or its just daily work routine or … at times I want it to be magical.
Just like how castle said ” If you don’t believe in the possiblity of Magic then you may never find one”.
So here is I am hoping that castle remain like it now and go on for ever and atleast if it run for 12 or 24 years is not a big time consider how many centuries older is our human generation is on earth.
Nathan & Stana Please keep doing the show as long as its possible for you two….Please

I agree that the finale was disappointing, especially the ‘already married’ scenario but the previous week ‘Veritas’ was arguably one of the best episodes of the entire show. I therefore have no doubt that the writers can keep us interested in Season 7 and possibly beyond.
Unfortunately a substantial amount of fans seem only invested in the ‘Caskett’ relationship and if things go a little awry in that quarter then they get all riled up and threaten to not watch.
Whilst Marlowe and his team no doubt take notice, I would hate for the show to lose its momentum as a crime drama, which is why I started to watch it in the first place. I am not saying that I don’t enjoy the ‘Caskett’ arc and would definitely want it to continue but we need good cases to solve as well. After all they are crime solvers as well as lovers.
My disappointment at the finale was short lived and I am looking forward to Season 7, whatever it may bring.

The show could go on for 12 seasons as long as it keeps fresh and there are a lot less “cases which are based on another show.” I think they could develop the supporting cast more. I like it when they do something different a couple of episodes a season, but they should still keep to the formula.

the beauty and curse of castle is its show model. i saw a bunch of times when they could have changed it up moved it on or something like that and they never let it go that far. the most recent is when she becomes FBI and then realized they could never make it work so they made her NYPD again to keep the model. the way they can keep the roles where they are is a great way to keep the show going on longer and longer because they can keep refreshing everything else like bad guys and other cops. they can even give those two something new to worry about after they finally get done with 3xk and stuff.
but that’s also its curse. because they want to be able to keep it going they have to keep it the same. like trying to make beckett fbi. if they kept that going it probably would screw up the show. the problem is that most shows have this kinda problem. you can’t move thing along and keep the show good and that gets shows cancelled or dumped by fans. castle’s done a good job of keeping things the way they are but it also means they can’t move on from the 12th precinct. the show will have to always be about beckett as a detective and castle following her.

Hi Matt, I’m from India, and Castle is one of the most popular shows out here. the season finale was not as we expected, but after witnessing the amazing story telling that has been done over the past 6 years, I’m sure the writers have a good reason for it and maybe season 7 is going to be an amazing one. We love Beckett & Castle!! Can’t wait for September! This show should go on for many more seasons. I’m game for castle season 12! :)

Castle is actually a type of show which can last a very long time. New villains can come, comedy can stay, romance can stay. It’s not a same story/villain, murderer, going forward every episode type thing, especially as Beckett’s mother case is also wrapped up. Castle can have new villains, new story, Castle and Beckett can have many things right now, marriage is still on, then there can be a kid, 3XK, father, a new mythology, Bracken’s reach in the outside, many things. Actually, it just depends on the cast.

The show is very much about execution rather than innovative plot twists or high concept. It’s fun, smart, traditional TV. In an age of highly serialized Very Important TV Shows, having a few classic-style series that are just entertaining as hell is a very good thing.
Those shows CAN get stale, don’t get me wrong, but it’s helpful that they don’t lean on pure novelty. The show will last as long as its core actors want it to. Especially Stana and Nathan, obviously.
With that said, I’d LOVE to see Molly, Seamus, Jon, or Tamala in other things. They’re all extremely talented and the shooting schedule is such that they’re really kind of stuck in place for the year. A few years ago, Nathan reportedly walked off the set so ABC would give them enough wiggle room that they’re not locked out of taking any other roles. I don’t know what ultimately happened, but Stana did do that CBGB movie, so maybe it worked. Either way, I can live with 22 eps (or 24 eps shot to create gaps in their schedules) so I can see some of these actors in other roles.
Molly in particular should be landing some minor movie spots by now.

Molly was in the We’re The Millers so she def. had the time and blessing to pursue films.
