‘Chicago PD’ episode 14 review: A hard day to be Burgess
While “Chicago Fire” ended its second season in super-dramatic fashion on Tuesday night, the penultimate episode of “Chicago PD’s” first season took a much more muted approach. It focused more on characters, and allowing you to get to know many of them and what they were up to while building towards the finale next week.
So what did we learn? First of all, that it is not easy to be a woman in this world. Call if discrimination, or call it the dangers of a relationship, but Burgess was passed over for a sweet promotion just because of who she was with. Also, Lindsay seems to be completely at the mercy of Charlie, which is hardly a good thing since this guy seems like a pretty firm candidate right now for “total d-bag.” Who brings a 12-year old something for a pre-schooler?
What we at least enjoy for now about what “Chicago PD” is doing is them realizing that for a show in its first season, it’s not really about raising the stakes and making you feel like someone is about to die at every turn. You have to make us care about what we are watching first, since there is otherwise no real reason to watch at all unless we actually care about some of the people that we are watching.
In the end, good characters will only go so far. If you hate cop shows, then you’re not going to enjoy this; but, at least what the show is doing a very good job of right now is giving us some people that we can care about for when the shockers come. Grade: B.
