MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 5 review: Matty, Sadie, and other surprises
During tonight’s episode of “Awkward.,” there were definitely many surprises, but to us, the biggest one is not happened with Jenna and a college
boy” as a part of a tour. Instead, it is what happened back when Matty and Sadie.
We’ve always loved the crazy relationship between these two characters, but we’ve never thought of it becoming an actual relationship … until maybe around the three or four seconds tonight when they kissed. Sadie was actually really nice in how she took care of him after a drunken night that included all sorts of shenanigans, and then the two realized after the kiss just how wrong this moment really was. While we don’t dig that Sadie’s romantic life has been virtually nonexistent at times this season after everything that happened last fall, we do like that the show is playing around with different ideas.
Jenna’s college hookup to us is somewhat interesting, but the principal problem that we have at the moment is that it feels a lot like a more idealized version of Collin. Before he went off the rails completely at the end of this past season, he felt like the intellectual equivalent for Jenna. This guy seems like that without some of the crazy.
As for the catfishing story, it’s not a good look for Tamra; also, it feels in some ways like an accidental advertisement for another MTV show in “Catfish.”
There were some funny moments throughout “Awkward.” Tuesday night, but is it wrong that we were expecting things to be a little more hilarious? The show this season has focused a little too much on narration and nostalgia, and not enough of comedy. Grade: C+.
