‘Broadchurch’ season 2 spoilers: David Tennant, Olivia Colman both returning
On the same day that the American version of “Broadchurch” in “Gracepoint” was scheduled to air on Fox in the fall, we are here to report some very welcome news when it comes to the original version from the United Kingdom: A trio of actors from the first season are going to officially be back for more.
According to the Radio Times, David Tennant and Olivia Colman are going to for sure join Arthur Darvill as returning to the ITV series. This almost all but confirms that the police force are going to still be involved in some shape or form, but that is really the only thing that can be taken from this. As ITV’s director of drama Steve November makes it clear, this show is still under a heavy mask of secrecy:
“We’re delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we’re remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops … Suffice to say Chris has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series.”
The fun thing about this casting for the most part is that this further ensures that there is a massive “Doctor Who” connection with the series, even if this show is so fantastic that you really do not have to even make the connection between the two series at all to enjoy it.
The reason why there was some uncertainty here about the future of these actors is simply because many contracts in the United Kingdom are not anywhere near as rigid as they are in America. This is why you see some many actors leaving shows like “Downton Abbey” just a mtter of a few seasons in.
