‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 6 preview: Tyrion’s trial has arrived
Sunday night’s “Game of Thrones” contains an event that we can definitively say right now is the most significant one they have had since the show aired the wedding of Joffrey and Margaery: The trial of Tyrion Lannister over the king’s death. You see Mace Tyrell, Oberyn Martell, and Tywin Lannister (sitting on the Iron Throne of all places) serving as judges, while Tyrion watches on wondering just what his fate is going to be.
But will this case go in his favor? It may be very difficult for many reasons, with the major one being that this is hardly a fair trial by any means. Cersei Lannister worked overtime in the past episode to specifically make inroads with her own father along with these other two families, and there is no motivation for any of them to protect Peter Dinklage’s beloved character. Even the Red Viper, who has his own vendettas against the Lannister family, seemingly has no reason to help spare someone not a part of his own plan.
The one thing that we are particularly curious to find out is whether or not Tyrion opts to choose Trial by Combat as he did back in the first season, and someone steps in to fight for him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have many options. Jaime only has one hand and likely doesn’t want to be in that position, Pod has already left with Brienne, and then, you are left only with the man in Bronn who fought for him the first time.
The biggest thing that Tyrion seemingly has going for him right now just his own sheer ability to be the King’s Landing version of a cockroach, and constantly survive almost anything that is put before him. We’ll just have to see if that happens again now.
