‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3 finale spoilers: What’s next for Belle, Rumpelstiltskin?

On this past episode of “Once Upon a Time,” we saw many characters in positions that were certainly unusual for them … but none more so than Belle and Rumpelstiltskin. On one side of the coin, they’re engaged! Hooray! This should be something that everyone gets a chance to celebrate.

However, at the same time there are many other problems that the two parties are forced into dealing with, with the major one simply being that they have a very volatile relationships thanks to Rumple’s lying. He made her believe that she had the Dark One dagger, only for it to be a fake. He then went and showed off the real one to Zelena before killing her as a measure of revenge over what happened to his son Neal. You have to think that this is going to cause some major trouble moving ahead.

All we can tease for now is what executive producer Edward Kitsis said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the subject:

“Secrets never end well … As we said, Rumple’s love for Belle is genuine but he also let us know that in their very first episode together ‘Skin Deep’ that he’s a very difficult man to love. There are a lot of complicated things going on in his head and we’re just beginning to explore that. Next year, we’ll understand a lot more what he’s thinking.”

Whatever happens on the finale Sunday night between the two of them, it’s going to be very difficult for it to be resolved before the fourth season. After all, shouldn’t it take Belle a while to come to grips with some of what she feels? Also, Rumple’s got to take the time to (hopefully) make things right.
