‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 15, episode 22 preview: A Gwyneth Paltrow reference

Who says that “Law & Order: SVU” cannot sneak in a little pop culture reference from time to time? The moment you hear the words “consciously uncouple” said with such earnestness from Bradley Whitford’s mouth, you may actually start to question whether or not real people (which does not includes Gwyneth Paltrow) actually say such a thing.

Outside of that reference, though, there is genuine substance to the sneak peek below. Namely, Whitford’s character, a popular producer, is having to defend himself against claims by his ex-wife that he molested the couple’s young daughter. He claims that his ex is putting words in his daughter’s mouth, and is taking advantage of the fact that he is a very disliked character by many to bring these sort of charges against him.

The impetus of the entire scene to us is when the character is asked whether or not he actually molested his daughter, and he responds by saying that if he wanted to, why wouldn’t he have waited for a more opportune situation to come around? That’s not exactly saying “no,” even though his attorney does that for him.

Even though we may be nearing the end of the entire series right now depending on NBC’s situation, we still do admire the commitment that is being made to keeping the show what it is. This is a very traditional high-profile case for the SVU with a familiar guest star, and this is the sort of thing that we would see a whole lot more of in the event that the show does get picked up for another season.
