MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 4 review: Jenna’s Spirit Week crisis
After a few weeks of struggling all over the place with her personal life, Jenna Hamilton on “Awkward.” took a very different direction: Getting revenge on the sophomores hanging all over Matty in the form of Spirit Week!
Okay, this entire idea was completely ridiculous, but also pretty entertaining for the most part. Since when are seniors “old and unreliable”? There was so much irony in here, and it took Jenna a long time to realize that her war with the sophomores during this week was completely unfounded. It was all about what Matty was doing rather than a bunch of girls trying to treat him like he was king.
The sophomores did win Spirit Week, but who cares that much? This is one of those things that everyone will remember in due time.
As for some other people making some crazy decisions, Matty decided that he was going to quit his job, since he didn’t really think that he needed it. The funny part of this? That his “job” was mostly just him standing around shirtless. Not the most dignified gig of all time, but it paid! Don’t these people need money?
“Awkward.” is a fun show typically, but this one really didn’t do it for us this much. Matty and Jake were being jerks, and Matty didn’t even really have much of a reason for it at this point. This is one of those episodes where we miss the voice of character Lauren Iungerich, since this felt more of what high school is like in the minds of adults versus a satirical view of what high school actually is. Grade: C+.
