‘The Tomorrow People’ season 2: Series boss on potential story, huge cliffhanger
At the moment, there is no word one way or another about whether or not “The Tomorrow People” will be picked up for another season, and with recent ratings especially in mind, we are not particular hopeful.
So what does all of this ultimately mean, and how do you approach the final stories? This is something that the writers had to think about when crafting some of their final stories, but based on some of what we are hearing now, there was never an urge to let fear of cancellation define what the show could be.
When asked if there is a cliffhanger in the finale, for example, show boss Phil Klemmer had the following to say in an interview with TVLine:
“Yes, [there is] like an Everest-sized cliffhanger. Season 1 was very much a show about an adolescent hero dealing with adolescent issues, and Season 2 will be much more a show about adults. That means jumping into the future. Stephen’s quest has been to understand who is and what he is and to bring his family together. But as we’ve seen in Episode 21, he’s lost his family. Season 2, I want it to be not about the Tomorrow People hiding and being on the run. I want it to be what they would do if they were unencumbered. The way we’re leaving things at the end of [Episode] 21, it looks like humankind could very well be doomed, and that’s a distinct possibility.”
Granted, the irony here is that the show that it sounds like we would see if there is a renewal is the sort of show that we have wanted to see from the beginning. Superheroes are way more exciting when they are out of hiding, especially if it becomes something that most of the public knows about. Just look at the “X-Men” franchise, or “True Blood” when it comes to vampires.
