‘Mad Men’ season 7, episode 4 podcast: Looking at ‘The Monolith’ with Jessa
Sunday night’s “Mad Men” may not have had a plethora of stories, but the ones that happened surely mattered. “The Monolith” was by our estimation the best episode of the season, and it is for that reason that this was an especially fun podcast to sit down and discuss.
In the audio below, CarterMatt Co-Founders Matt Carter and Jessa take a look at the life and times of Roger Sterling, whether or not Don Draper has really turned it around again, and if we would watch a separate spin-off show that is really just all about watching Ginsberg freak out time and time again. Here are some of the other specific subjects tackled:
- What was the turning point that made Roger Sterling want to act like a father again?
- Was this one of John Slattery’s finer performances?
- Do we think that the story with Roger and his daughter will return this season?
- We look at Don’s love of the “Mets,” and also his drunken stupor when he realizes that he is not able to do whatever he wants at the firm again.
- There is some brief discussion about Pete Campbell, and the value of what we saw from him in such a small role.
- We look ahead to next week’s episode (watch a promo for it here), which includes the return of Betty Francis to the show after a week away.
Somehow, “Mad Men” manages to give us quite a bit to talk about thematically week in and week out, even if the story itself is far more subtle than most other programs on TV.
