NBC’s ‘Community’: Joel McHale on White House Correspondents Dinner, advice from Conan O’Brien

The latest -Tonight, the biggest roast in Hollywood is coming courtesy of the White House Correspondents Dinner, which should be either entertaining or disastrous. That is at least the way that we have seen the show over the years. There’s no harder gig for a comedian, since you have to entertain a crowd that doesn’t always want to laugh.

Tonight, the comedian of choice was none other than Joel McHale of “Community” fame, who seemed to be up for the challenge. However, he also admitted that he put in quite a bit of work to prepare himself for the occasion. Speaking to CNN prior to the dinner, he told the network that the likes of Conan O’Brien, Seth Meyers, and others all gave him the same suggestions:

“It’s all pretty much the same advice: ‘It’s pretty much the [weirdest] thing you’ll ever do, but also the most exhilarating thing you’ll ever do.”

Joel also made it clear that he was not particularly worried in the slightest about whether or not some of the attendees got themselves a little bit bent out of shape by some of the things that he said:

“If I am so effective that I get [people saying] ‘I can’t believe you said that’ and storming the stage … It may be the best thing ever.”

You can expect Joel to crack jokes at the expense of the President, but we also more than anticipate him going after everyone from political figures to also members of various news networks. We expect many jokes to be cracked about Fox News, mostly because that seems to be the way of the world for this show thanks to their own brash brand of coverage.
