‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3, episode 20 video: Dorothy enters Oz

Did “Once Upon a Time” really need to introduce Dorothy? From the outside looking in, this is one of the larger questions that we have in regards to the new episode “Kansas” airing on ABC Sunday night.

The arrival of the character to Oz is introduced in the sneak peek video below, but all that we really learn is something that you probably learned from “The Wizard of Oz” back when you watched it years ago. Dorothy Gale arrives from Kansas, and has no clue what this world is. The only difference here is that this Dorothy immediately meets both Glinda and also Zelena at the same time. Quite the interesting set of faces to collide into right when you arrive. It has to be a wee bit intimidating, no?

What we are personally hoping for right now is that this Dorothy character is somehow linked to what the show’s story for the fourth season could be, and this is why she is being brought in now rather thank trying to make the tale of Zelena and her jealousy any more complicated. This plotline has been actually moving at almost a perfect pace as it is. We’ve understood most of her motives for wanting to find a spell to go back to the past, and we’re worried about Dorothy messing up the timeline of events and confusing us.

We will at least say this: At least Dorothy is not another interpretation of one of the characters we have already gotten an opportunity to meet. She is her own person in the universe, naive and reasonably unassuming. When you are next to a Wicked Witch, these are not attributes that tend to work in your favor.
