‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Andrew Garfield, Coldplay, and British humor
Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” will air an episode that will have a decidedly British flair to it. Andrew Garfield will be the host for the show, and he will be joined by none other than musical guest Coldplay making their umpteenth appearance on the show as they prepare to promote their newest album.
The new promo for the show via NBC is both short and sweet. It focuses on Garfield and the band joking first and foremost about their names, and then they mock American writers for thinking that British people are ridiculous. We’re surprised that there were no chimney sweep jokes in here!
As for our expectations from tonight’s episode, we anticipate there being at least two Spider-Man references given Garfield’s role in the franchise, and we’re not ruling out an Emma Stone cameo in here, given both her relationship with her co-star and also her previous hosting experience on the show. She has also been in New York this week a lot already for press on the project.
As for humor, Garfield has demonstrated an ability to make fun of himself and get some laughs. The struggle is that this is a very different sort of acting than he is used to. It involves reading off of cue cards, being quick to move around and think, and not being able to do any second takes. Some movie actors, even the funny ones, struggle. It also doesn’t help if they are given nothing interesting to do, which happened to Jennifer Lawrence back when she was the host of the show a year and a half ago.
