‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Andrew Garfield, Bobby Moynihan, and Emma Stone jokes

SNL -

Saturday Night Live” returns this weekend with a new episode hosted by Andrew Garfield, and there may be laughs. There may also be tigers, and Bobby Moynihan playing the “Comedy Doctor.”

If there is even 20% as much Bobby in the actual episode as there is in the promo for it below, we can breathe a sigh of relief and do a happy-dance around the room. He has become the show’s co-MVP this season alongside Kate McKinnon, and typically is involved in some of the funniest sketches. When your most-notable character in Drunk Uncle is not even among the best things you’ve done all season long, you know that you are in pretty good shape.

Garfield and Moynihan’s mini-sketches in the promo are silly, and range from an Emma Stone reference regarding the show’s stage to an array of “serious voices” and also Andrew proving that he can pull off that American accent in the blink of an eye. Heck, he has a better accent than many American actors we’ve heard over the years.

The cross-promotion here is obvious, given that “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is hitting theaters and Sony wants to ensure that it makes as much money as possible. Having Andrew on this show is a good way to do that. The main reason that we’re confident that this will be at least a decent show is that there is enough visual evidence out there that he can deliver when it comes to being silly and game to do crazy things. He’s already dressed up as Spider-Man at Comic-Con, and he’s done a cameo on the show that proves it’s not his first time in the studio. Sometimes, we worry about actors coming in with a list of things that they are afraid of, or unwilling to do because of their “image.” It’s hard to say if we can fully expect that from Andrew.
