‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Meet Patsy, a legitimately funny puppet

More news -There are few things traditionally that we have less faith in while watching talent competitions than puppet shows. Unless you are a ventriloquist and have a skill that the public can actually see, it’s not easy to rope people in to what you’re doing.

Ultimately, it’s all about the quality of the puppet, the quality of the voice, and also the quality of the writing. You need all three to make it anywhere further than the audition, and luckily Patsy, who you can see in the video below, has all three. She’s a fun take on a New Yorker with big dreams through a British lens, and the “Britain’s Got Talent” judges seem to be very impressed. For one, the puppet’s a good singer! Also, the chemistry with Ant and Dec was also pretty brilliant. Is it an added bonus to get two presenters on stage who are seasoned performers to help you out? Sure, and that is probably what makes this particular performance even more fantastic.

For a puppet like Patsy, the issue now will have to be coming up with where to go from here. If you have one weaker performance, it all falls apart quicker than a badly-made puppet in the rain. We’ve also got to find out more about what is the puppeteer behind this can do. At the moment, the puppet is all we have to go on, but given that Terry Fator (a ventriloquist on “America’s Got Talent”) was the last person to be anywhere like this many years ago, we feel very much ready to see a potential winner that comes from this world.

What do you think about this overall performance based on what we’ve seen: Funny, or nothing special? Share your thoughts one way or the other below, and head over to the link here to get our full review of this past episode.
