‘Mad Men’ season 7: Jared Harris to direct upcoming episode
Do you miss seeing Jared Harris on “Mad Men“? If so, we definitely understand that. It’s therefore unfortunate that we lost the character of Lane back in season 5, as he did one of the least-subtle things that any character has done on this subtle show and chose to take his own life.
Luckily, we are at least going to see some more of his vision play out in a different way moving forward: As a director. Harris will step into the role for an installment that will most-likely air in the spring of next year, long after the first seven episodes of the season have aired. Unlike “Breaking Bad” back when they decided to adopt a somewhat-similar model in terms of airing their final season, “Mad Men” looks interested in shooting most of their entire run now. They’re not afraid of spoilers getting out (they never do), and their top priority seems to be just finding a way to get the work done so that the cast can go and do some other things without being bound to come back. This is why some of the actors are now taking part in pilot season, as they start to look ahead to the next move in their careers.
In going back to Harris, hopefully he will have something pretty awesome to direct. Given how long he has been away from the series, he certainly should get some sort of return that is worthy of fanfare. Given that he received an Emmy nomination for playing the Lane character, this also has to be one of his personal favorite roles.
