‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: See series star Jim Carter’s surprising new gig!

Carson speaks -On “Downton Abbey,” you likely know Jim Carter well for being the stoic and constantly-serious Mr. Carson. However, in real life he of course has a variety of other interests that don’t involve the character, and that is what the focus of this article here is going to be about.

Carter and his wife Imelda Staunton are getting set to team up with their personal friends Show of Hands to record ” Centenary: Words & Music Of The Great War,” an album of poems written related to World War I set to music. There is obviously a coincidental aspect of this, given that a good portion of “Downton Abbey” during its run took place around the war.

Some of the selections that could be featured here (per the Telegraph) include  Wilfred Owen’s Anthem For Doomed Youth and Dulce Et Decorum Est, some pieces composed by by Siegfried Sassoon and I Have A Rendezvous With Death from Alan Seeger. This is an intriguing collection for war buffs and historians, and you can look for that later this year.

While there are some others within the “Downton Abbey” family that have dabbled into the recording world, most of them don’t do it in this context. Instead, we are a little more accustomed to seeing Elizabeth McGovern with her band, or some of the other actors in the realm of musical theater. The good thing about all of these actors on the show, though, is that the flexible schedule allows them the opportunity to do some more work away from the series while also filming their scenes.
