TV Quick Hits: ‘The Leftovers’ trailer, Fox goes for ‘Grease,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ ratings, more

The latest -The Leftovers” trailer – While there have been some occasional teases here and there regarding Damon Lindelof’s new HBO series, the network unveiled the first official trailer last night … but does it really meet some of the hype?

The inevitable comparison to make right now is between this show and “Resurrection” on ABC, even though that one featured characters coming back from the dead rather than them departing. But both have a similar sort of central mystery. We liked some of the teasers for “The Leftovers” better than this one, since it seems more intent on giving you all the HBO tropes (violence, sex, strong language) then really delving into the mystery.

“The Leftovers” itself will premiere two weeks later than planned on Sunday, June 29. Hopefully, it can meet the level of hype that Lindelof gets from creating “Lost.” (Warning: There is some very strong language in the trailer.)

New “The Daily Show” correspondent – Michael Che has reportedly stepped in to become the latest on-camera presence on the Comedy Central show, which did recently lose John Oliver so that he could go off to HBO for his new “Last Week Tonight” series. Che is a writer at present with “Saturday Night Live,” and will join Stewart and company this summer after the season is over.

HBO ratings – Speaking of Oliver, his new series debuted last night to 1.1 million viewers, which is a fine start all things considered. Also, the big story is “Game of Thrones” breaking another record with 6.9 million viewers last night. So much for anyone being that angry over Jaime Lannister raping his sister, which we thought was the first real moment that the show may have turned off people.

Fox goes “Grease” – Clearly inspired by “The Sound of Music Live,” Fox is staging a three-hour revival of this popular musical, which will air at some point in 2015.

Chelsea Handler to Netflix? – The New York Daily News claims that Chelsea is looking to join the streaming service in some capacity, which makes sense given her E! contract is ending this year and she wants to move on.
