‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Meet Bailey McConnell and the inevitable Justin Bieber comparisons

When you are a singer on “Britain’s Got Talent,” you better do something phenomenal in order to justify your spot on the show. There are other singing shows! Why come on a show that really doesn’t benefit you as much as them when it comes to exposure and judges who know the subject matter?

Luckily, there are exceptions to the rule, and Bailey McConnell is one of them. He’s just 14 years old, and the easy explanation for why he’s not on a singing show elsewhere is because he’s too young. He also gets a chance to do an original here, which is not so easily allowed on those other programs like “The Voice” or “The X Factor.”

Now, we also feel the need to justify the fact that we mentioned Justin Bieber in the title of this story, since that comes with such responses as “ick” and “no thanks” these days. Bailey may have the hair that is more similar to what Justin sports now, but his voice and his style reminds us of what Bieber was like before the bad behavior, the fast characters, and the general insanity that spiraled out of him becoming a big star so young. This was almost like watching one of his old YouTube videos while he was still waiting to be discovered.

We know that Simon Cowell would love to have a young male pop star like this on his Syco label, so Bailey’s got a good shot at winning this. Since the pattern seems to be that one judge pushes their golden buzzer an episode, we won’t be surprise that Cowell pushes for this one.
