‘Criminal Minds’ season 9 spoilers: Series boss on crazy two-part finale
Whenever “Criminal Minds” gets near the end of a season, there is plenty of reason to start developing a little bit of anxiety in the pit of your stomach. This is a show with a few well-established habits at this point, and among them is a tendency to kill people off … or just leave them in a ton of peril.
So could something like this be in store for the end of season 9? While we feel like the episode titles of “Demons” and “Angels” are a little on-the-nose, showrunner Erica Messer still does everything in her power to get you excited about it. Just take a look at some of her response when asked about it by TV Guide:
“[This was] one of the more twisted finales we’ve done. We broke it as a movie, so it’s going to be action-packed from beginning to end … Someone might be in jeopardy.”
Messer did not necessarily confirm to the publication that there was going to be some sort of cliffhanger at the end of the season, but with her “subtle” reminder in this interview that they did get an early pickup for next season, it’s hard to see anything else happening other than a cliffhanger. Why not keep people waiting for season 10? It’s another way to ensure that everyone watches to see what happens next.
We always look forward to these finales more so than any other episode of “Criminal Minds,” mostly because syndication and the basic premise of the show typically force it to do isolated cases almost every week. This is a breath of fresh air for the writers to play around and do something a little different.
