‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: A shocking finale awaits Sam, Dean, and Castiel
While most TV shows are set to close the books on their seasons in three weeks or less, “Supernatural” still at least has a little more left in the tank than that. The finale is coming up on Tuesday, May 20, and just as you would expect, the story revolving around angels and the present state of Heaven is going to take center stage.
So what may still surprise you? That not everything could go according to plan. Sam, Dean, and Castiel are all going to be involved in the story, as is a returning Metatron to the fray. While there may not be much in the way of specifics, the following message from showrunner Jeremy Carver to E! News may still be enough to have you anxious and/or worried about some of the future for our beloved characters:
“All bets are off when Sam, Dean and Castiel take the fight to Metatron … Uneasy alliances and brutal choices await…all culminating in shocking consequences.”
The thing about “Supernatural,” though, is that it is not an easy show to predict. So you could sit here and say that either X or Y was going to happen, but then there would not be a whole lot that you could really say in order to back that up. It’s an imaginative show, and whatever surprises await could be completely out of left field, or introduce something that we have not entirely thought of. All we hope is that it’s something that continues to allow Castiel to be an important part of the show, since we like having Misha Collins around as a series regular.

I’ve actually been pretty accurate in predicting a Season Finale of Supernatural. I almost had Season 8’s finale completely right- aside the Angels falling from Heaven because that wasn’t at all hinted at until the episode aired.
So for Season 9, I’m predicting that it’s going to be all about Dean and the Mark of Cain. Abbadon is going to get killed by Dean, and the First Blade will finally have consumed him in some way, which will be the main part of the traditional Supernatural cliffhanger.
As for the Heaven story, it can go in any direction but Metatron is probably going to be killed. I make a point of noting that anytime a ‘big bad’ says “you can’t defeat me” to the Winchesters, they tend to… get defeated a few episodes later. Metatron said that very recently. But what will happen to Cas is completely subjectible. He could become the leader of the remaining angels, or all the other Angels could die making him the sole Angel left.

I know I’ve beaten this drum before, but when will we see Joshua (Roger Aaron Brown) again? He deserves more than just episode 5.16 “Dark Side of the Moon.” An angel who talks to God would be one of the most important characters to complete this arc.

And yes, I want to see Cas back in season 10. I only voted once, so my 100% adds to Cathy Stead’s claim of 98% of the people who want him back.

My 100% thinks you love your spoon too much Keyser!
I cannot imagine an ego such as yourself would even bother to vote in an presidential election let alone a silly little poll for a TV programme! LOL!

And why haven’t we seen Rick Worthy back as the Alpha Vamp? We haven’t seen him since episode 7.22 “There Will Be Blood”, where he said, “See you next season, boys.” However, we didn’t see him in season 8 or this season.

And why have all the leviathans been dismissed. I almost feel as though the leviathans are to Supernatural what Chuck Cunningham was to Happy Days.

So everything is going back to the angels and Metatron? What about Abaddon and the Mark Of Cain? :/ Fingers crossed that storyline is actually going to stick around for next season and Metatron is done for, I find him and the angels en masse a bit boring now…not like the old days of Uriel and Anna. Cas can stay till the end and just join up with Sam and Dean, he can exist on this show beyond his connection with the angels surely, but the angels themselves I think need to go back to Heaven and stay there.

like it or not the Show has evolved from a duo to a trio, namely Dean, Sam and Cas. Their stories are so intertwined that it would not be possible or reasonable to write any one of them out of the show. Not to mention from a ratings and financial standpoint — I do not think TPTB are that foolish. Create uncertainty and play on fans’ angst, definitely. Anger a good percentage of the most passionate fans to exodus the show? Not likely.

how are their stories interwined? this season sam and dean’s storyline was totally separated from castiel’s. and last week’s episode had the lowest ratings so far and it was a cas centric episode. since you all claim that the majority of the fans want cas, shouldn’t the episode have higher ratings?
SJ
April 21, 2014 @ 12:37 pm
I think the low ratings were largely due to the fact that it was the first episode airing after yet another long hiatus. Unless you’re a major fan who painstakingly tracks the schedule, you’re not going to easily know when this show is even on because they’ll show a few episodes then be off the air for 3 weeks. 9×11, “First Born,” was a Cas episode that had the 2nd-highest ratings of this season.

First Born was not a cas episode at all!
It was primarily Dean and Crowley and how actually got the Mark of Cain! It was called First Born because of Cain! Sam and cas played minor roles in this episode.

As I replied to someone earlier, I never said it was a Cas-CENTRIC episode, just a CAS episode. Cas isn’t in a whole lot of episodes, so when he’s in one, I call it a Cas episode. But it doesn’t matter — Cas fans love Cas and will tune in if he’s in an episode for 5 minutes or all 45.

Actually, according to IMDB.com, Misha Collins has been in the third most episodes of SN with 65. Jared and Jensen are first with 195. Jim Beaver ranks fourth with 57, Mark Sheppard is fifth with 33, and Osric Chau and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are tied for sixth with 15.

Spread those 65 episodes out over nearly a full 6 seasons, though. An average of ~10 episodes per season really isn’t a whole lot out of a 22/23 episode season.

Jared and Jensen are supposed to be the leads! Of course they should be in the most episodes!
roxi

But even if they are in the most episodes, their screen time is spent mostly in teen angst or playing supporting roles to whatever supporting/recurring character is featured that week.

You and I were obviously watching two different shows. Also, sorry to burst your bubble but Cas doesn’t improve ratings.

The majority of the fans watch and have always watched for the central story about Sam and Dean. They are supposed to be the two LEADS.
Sure there are those who only watch for Cas, but they are in the MINORITY. I like Cas, but he is a supporting character who should serve to enhance what should always be the core Winchester story. The sad part is that the writers have stopped writing a good, joint storyline for them, opting instead to feature Cas and recurring guests like Charlie and Garth, and writing nothing but contrived conflict and angst for Sam and Dean.

This was supposed to be the first season since season 3 that Dean was finally going to have an important story arc, with the MOC, but instead, it’s only gotten passing lip service and now it’s too late to do anything with it. Meanwhile, Cas and the angels were made into the main story arc of the season. And Sam’s possession? How about how he feels about what Dean did? (I love Dean, but he was wrong and needs to see that.) Or Sam getting vengeance on Gadreel? But no, it’s either Cas or it’s throw away MOTW episodes that have nothing to do with what Sam and Dean are going through with either the possession issue or what the MOC is doing to Dean and how that will affect both Dean and Sam.

April 22, 2014 @ 6:57 pm
The contrived conflict and angst in Sam and Dean’s storylines isn’t the fault of Cas or any secondary character, though. It’s just because the writing sucks now. The writers have plenty of resources to write good Sam and Dean storylines while still having Cas too. It’s not a one-or-the-other situation.
roxi
April 23, 2014 @ 2:55 pm
I didn’t say it was Cas’s fault. I said that I believe it is unfair that the two main characters, the ones the show was built on, are given no good material while the supporting character gets the main arc.

Dean and Sam’s stories as they stand right now have been played out, and there is nowhere to go with them if the writers continue to refuse developing their characters in any real way. The same conflicts happen over and over and over. Maybe it’s just me, but if the writers refuse to do anything but write codependent angst and drama between Sam and Dean, I’m glad to have interesting stories involving Cas, Charlie, and others to fall back on. Otherwise there would be NOTHING new on the show at all. They had a huge opportunity to really run with the Mark of Cain storyline this season but for whatever reason they’ve barely focused on it at all.
roxi
April 29, 2014 @ 12:41 pm
And that’s exactly my point. But instead of giving any and all important or interesting stories to their supporting and recurring characters, my feeling is that the writers should be giving their best and most important/engaging stories to the Winchesters, the two LEADS, the ones who are supposed to be what the whole show is about. The supporting and recurring characters can have their compelling side arcs as well, but in the end, their plotlines should serve to enhance what should be the main Sam and Dean story.
We have been getting MOTW stories that have nothing to do with the bigger Winchester arc, and Crowley, Cas, Metatron, and the angels. And next week introduces the spin off. These last few episodes of the season should be focusing on and developing the story of the possession aftermath, and how and what the Mark of Cain is doing/will do to Dean(and Sam) but like you said they’re barely paying any attention to it at all.

First Born was NOT a Cas episode! Are you kidding me? The main featured plot in that episode was Dean and Crowley finding Cain and Dean taking the mark, with a B plot of Cas healing Sam and them bonding.
I think a lot of long time fans are tuning out because they’re sick of The Winchesters becoming supporting characters in their own show.
SJ
April 22, 2014 @ 6:50 pm
I never said anywhere in my comment that “First Born” was a Cas-centric episode. But Cas fans absolutely love Cas and will tune in to any episode he’s in, no matter how long he’s going to be in it, just to see him on screen. I absolutely think it helps ratings. We’ll just disagree on this.

Preach it! Not everybody wants Castiel back, just fyi, some people – like, say, a good chunk of the fandom – actually watch the show for the SHOW, for the BROTHERS and NOT for the angels!
Cathy Stead
April 21, 2014 @ 4:04 am
yes, but in recent polls 98% want Cas back and it would be foolish of TPTB to write out his character for some arbitrary pilot-driven storyline.
meme51
April 21, 2014 @ 5:44 pm
Polls do not always give a clear view of people’s feelings. There are equally polls that say they don’t mind if Cas leaves. Either way it is not as high as 98% of the fandom that want him to stay.
I myself am totally over that character and the angel story lines as a whole. When I write this on my own blog it has a lot of following so I know I’m not alone in this thought.
I personally think 3s a crowd and cas has outlasted his usefulness. To me he has always been no more than a tool for the Winchester – they only call on him when they want something from him.
It would also put an end to the ridiculous shipping that simply doesn’t and will never exist between characters. If push came to shove Dean would happily destroy cas to save Sam.
His brother comes before everyone and everything.
I think Season 10 should be Spn’s last and should go out with a bang and people saying how it shouldn’t have ended because it was brilliant. This cannot happen with stale old stories still hanging around. Therefore yes write cas out for the sake of story and quality.
Ladyinsane1
April 21, 2014 @ 7:18 pm
Probably because they are too busy cheating or constantly voting until their fingers fall off.
roxi
April 22, 2014 @ 1:49 pm
They might want Cas back, as I do too, but like me, I doubt that the majority want him to take center stage away from The Winchesters.
Arbitrary pilot drive storyline? What storyline? The whole problem is that the writers have stopped writing any decent storyline for the brothers.
roxi
April 29, 2014 @ 12:52 pm
What everybody? Maybe some of you, but as far as I can tell from reading many reviews, blogs, and fansites, the majority of SPN fans still care the most about the Winchesters and care mostly about what happens with THEM.
