‘The Crimson Field’ episode 3 preview: Suranne Jones on Joan’s ring
British television is quite an interesting beast sometimes, and you have yet another example of that now courtesy of the BBC series “The Crimson Field.” While the majority of TV shows these days tend to run for at least 8 episodes, this miniseries-of-sorts is sticking with six. This means that Sunday’s episode is going to mark the halfway point for the series when it is over, and that is a crazy thing to think about.
So what can you expect to take place in this episode? Well, Suranne Jones offered up the Express about how the other nurses react to a ring that they discover around her neck:
“Viewers have heard Joan say she doesn’t have a partner, but then seen her kissing that ring. This week she goes to have a shower after a long night shift and moves the chain to the back of her neck. She doesn’t realise Rosalie [Marianne Oldham] is in there. When Rosalie sees the ring it’s like she has something on Joan, which she goes to report to Sister Margaret Quayle [Kerry Fox], so the problems start from there. They think she’s hiding something.”
The reason that Joan sticks out so much in relation to the other nurses is that she by and large holds a progressive viewpoint on matters, and she is not the easiest character therefore for some of the others to understand. Nonetheless, she is very skilled at her profession, and you see some of that in the sneak-peek video below.
“The Crimson Field” has become modestly successful for BBC One since its debut, but it still needs to work on a few things, with one of them being a little more balanced with the darkness and light. Even a show about war is typically a little more hopeful than we’ve seen here.
