‘2 Broke Girls’ review: Is this Lindsay Lohan cameo a funny one?
The new hip thing these days for shows is that if you want to get some headlines, especially if you don’t always get them, you bring Lindsay Lohan on board. This works perfectly for “2 Broke Girls,” given that this is not a show that typically gets time in the magazines. It’s silly, at times stupid, and really is the female “Two and a Half Men” when it comes to humor.
So we applaud the choice for them to get Lohan on the show, mostly because it needed the extra PR boost with the move to the former “How I Met Your Mother” timeslot. Unfortunately for them, it still wasn’t the great guest-star appearance it could have otherwise been. Lohan played the part of a woman who booked Max and Caroline to create their wedding cake, and various hijinks ensued.
The “2 Broke Girls” writers did a very nice job creating the actual character for Lindsay to play. She had some great dialogue, and her scatterbrained character would be very fun in the right hands. While she wasn’t awful (we’ve seen far worse Lindsay cameos, including her last “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig), there was just a little hesitation there. Had there been just a little more bravery there to go all in with the performance, it could have been even better. Heck, if there had been, we would love for her to be a more permanent part of this show’s wacky universe. Doing a regular job like a sitcom could do Lohan some good as she continues to work on rebuilding her life.
In the end, you probably enjoyed this episode (and Max wearing a wedding dress after Lohan’s character got cold feet) if you did “2 Broke Girls.” Otherwise, it’s not something that is going to get you hooked on the show if you aren’t a regular viewer. There were some good laughs, but it was all very formulaic and could have easily been a grade-point higher. Grade: C+.
